South Africa and Costa Rica are taking practical steps to reduce the environmental impact of shipping on marine ecosystems, with support from the IMO. IMO action on invasive species highlighted at UN Ocean Conference
The IMO is stepping up efforts to combat the threat of invasive species introduced into new marine environments by ships. At the UN Ocean Conference in Nice delegates outlined the ongoing efforts to curb this threat, including moves towards global mandatory regulations.
Kenyan port personnel upgrade port security expertise
Kenya is strengthening the security of its port operations by equipping personnel with the knowledge and skills required to meet international maritime standards. A four-day Training of Port Personnel with Designated Security Duties (PPSD) workshop, along with a one-day security awareness training for general port personnel, is currently underway in Mombasa (9-13 June).
