Externships

The International Maritime Organization is currently not accepting any new applications due to the fluid situation surrounding COVID-19 and the restrictions in place on external visitors to IMO. Should you wish to register your interest for a future externship please send an e-mail to ero @ imo.org and the External Relations Office will be in contact once the current restrictions have been lifted (19 March 2020).

Every so often IMO seeks out talented students with the relevant academic background and qualifications to provide short-term support to a specific section of the Organization.

Externships are unpaid roles that provide the opportunity for a student to accrue professional workplace experience in a specialized agency of the United Nations, in exchange for credits towards their degree. All necessary skills and requirements will be detailed in the relevant vacancy notice.

All applications should be accompanied by an Extern Conditions and Requirements form, completed by both the student and Faculty Supervisor. The IMO Supervisor section does not need to be completed as part of the initial application.
