Multi-donor Trust Funds (MDTFs)

MDTFs have been established to encourage contributions targeted on specific issues and are used to support specific technical co-operation programmes which address these issues.  IMO has established in recent years six MDTFs:

The International Maritime Security Trust (IMST) Fund

The IMST Fund was established with the main purpose of providing support for activities and projects on maritime security that are identified as priorities by developing countries, ensuring that the interests of all developing regions are adequately recognized.

The International Search and Rescue (SAR) Fund

The International SAR Fund was established for the delivery of priority activities and projects on maritime SAR that are identified by developing countries, with the initial emphasis being placed on the African region.

The International Ship Recycling Trust (ISRT) Fund

The ISRT Fund was established for the development and implementation of technical co-operation activities directly related to the enhancement of safe and environmentally sound ship recycling capacity in developing countries, thereby providing a financial mechanism to support national initiatives with respect to legal, administrative and operational matters aimed at strengthening their capacity for safe and environmentally sound ship recycling.

The IMO Malacca and Singapore Straits Trust Fund

This Fund was established to support projects identified by three littoral States (Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore) following several meetings held in Asia on safety, security and environmental protection in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.

The IMO Djibouti Code of Conduct Trust Fund

The IMO Djibouti Code of Conduct Trust Fund was established to financially support capacity-building activities aimed at implementing the provisions of the Djibouti Code of Conduct concerning the repression of piracy and armed robbery against ships in the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.

The London Convention/Protocol TC Trust Fund

The London Convention/Protocol TC Trust Fund was established as a dedicated source of financial support for technical co operation and assistance activities to promote membership of the London Protocol and strengthen national marine pollution prevention and management capacities to achieve compliance with the London Convention and Protocol.
