IMO expresses condolences over Gaza convoy deaths

​On the occasion of the 104th session (7 to 11 June 2010) of the IMO Council, the
Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) – the UN specialized agency responsible for the regulation of international shipping from, among other perspectives, the safety of human life at sea and safety of navigation – reiterated the expression of his deep regret for the loss of life and injuries sustained during an incident involving Israeli Defence Forces and ships carrying charity aid to the Gaza strip in international waters of the Eastern Mediterranean in the early hours of Monday, 31 May 2010, which he had first expressed during his opening address to IMO’s Technical Co-operation Committee one day after the incident had happened.

 

In this context, he has also conveyed his deep condolences to the families and friends of the casualties incurred in the tragic incident.
