| Comoros Islands joins IMO 12 September 2001
The Comoros Islands has become a Member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), following its deposit, on 3 August 2001, of an instrument of acceptance of the Convention on the International Maritime Organization, as amended, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations. With the accession of the Comoros Islands, the number of IMO Member States stands at 159.
