A visit to the cruise ship “Jewel of the Seas” and the St. John’s port facilities to experience IMO maritime security measures first-hand was a highlight of a seminar on surveillance, monitoring and communication systems for maritime security for Caribbean countries, hosted by IMO in Antigua and Barbuda (28 - 31 July). The Hon. S.C. Benjamin, Acting Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, opened the event, which was jointly organized by IMO and the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping (ADOMS). 31/07/2014 The UK branch of WISTA, the organisation for women working in the shipping industry, held its annual dinner at IMO Headquarters yesterday (July 30). Celebrating 40 years since its formation, WISTA UK counts naval architects, maritime lawyers, ship's engineers, insurance and sale-and-purchase brokers, claims adjusters and many others among its members. IMO’s Pamela Tansey spoke at the event, highlighting IMO’s work to further the cause of gender equality in shipping.
