The first session of IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) was held from 4 to 8 March 1974 at IMO (known as the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO) until 1982). The meeting was held in IMO’s former headquarters building on Piccadilly, London
(now the Japanese Embassy in the United Kingdom).
IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu was (on 4 March) taken on a tour of the Hong Kong Observatory
by its Director, Mr. Shun Chi-ming, during a week-long visit to Hong Kong, China. On Monday, Mr. Sekimizu met with Professor Anthony Cheung, Secretary for Transport and Housing. He also met Mr. Michael Wong, Director of Marine, Marine Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
, and visited the Vessel Traffic Centre and Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.

(28 February 2014), organized in collaboration with the Arctic Options: Holistic Integration for Arctic Coastal-Marine Sustainability Project and the Arctic Climate Change, Economy and Society (ACCESS) Project.
