This workshop was one of a series of piracy awareness training courses for seafarers being undertaken by IMO in collaboration with the Maritime Piracy Humanitarian Response Programme (MPHRP)
. It was hosted by the Viet Nam Maritime Administration (VINAMARINE)'s head office in Hanoi (4-5 November) and at the VINAMARINE branch office in Ho Chi Minh City (7-8 November) in collaboration with the Viet Nam Seafarers' Union (VSU). It aimed to provide trainers/seafarers with valuable information resources, practical tools and best practices guidance to assist them in training seafarers to understand and make use of IMO guidelines and other maritime security measures against piracy and armed robbery against ships. This workshop focused on seafarers’ awareness and preparedness to the risks of piracy and armed robbery, and on the techniques which may be used to aid seafarers in coping with hostage situations and post-hostage scenarios.
